The first day of our passage to the Galapagos was through the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone (aka ITCZ or doldrums). Lots of rain, no regular wind, we finally gave up and motored for about six hours trying to head perpendicular to the ICTZ regardless of where it took us. Then we broke out and had four days of glorious light air sailing. A long gentle swell and no more than 6-10kts from mostly forward of the beam. Not the most productive days we spent under sail but absolutely some of the most pleasant. We still managed 900 miles in 5 days.
